Bristol Area Lions and friends prepare to distribute Christmas food baskets. From left: Brett Cowan, Lion Chris Leeman, Chad Cowan, Timothy Leeman, and Lions Jock Winchester, Michael Hope, Patrick Moran, John Janell and Alfred Ajami. Not shown, already departed on their appointed rounds: Lions Bill Byrnes, Brendan Donegan, Stan Galvin, Walt Johansson, David Kolodin and Tom MacGregor.

The Bristol Area Lions and friends distributed 58 Christmas food baskets to Bristol and South Bristol homes Dec. 19, thanks to the efforts of project manager Lion Michael Hope and Paul Yates, of C.E. Reilly and Son Inc. in New Harbor. Special thanks to Rising Tide Community Market for their donation of canned corn and containers of turkey gravy and to Mike Reny of Biscay Orchards for bags of apples. After scholarships, this is the club’s largest donation to the community. The Bristol Area Lions look forward every year to this heartfelt event, and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

The next meeting of the Bristol Area Lions will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, at Hawks House Inn, 349 State Route 129, Walpole (formerly the Brannon-Bunker Inn).
