Ex-officio Parliamentarian Al Sears presented a 25-year service award chevron to Lion Al Rottner at Cove’s Edge long-term care unit on Jan. 7. When Rottner entered Cove’s Edge he was asked if he wanted to continue his membership since he will no longer be participating in the meetings or events. He replied: “Once a Lion, always a Lion.”

He has been club president, secretary, raffle ticket chairman, flea market chairman, Willing Workers hall caretaker and an active participant in the club’s service projects and fund raising activities. Rottner set up the tables, chairs and podium and replenished supplies before each meeting. Assuming all of his duties as club secretary, raffle ticket chairman and hall caretaker has required six active Lions.

In 2008, Lion Al Rottner was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship award by Past International Director Lew Small. These awards are given in recognition of a commitment to humanitarian work and are considered the Lions Club International Foundation’s highest awards. Rottner received a special lapel pin and a personalized plaque in honor of his commitment to helping others. He has been an inspiration to the Bristol Area Lions Club members.
