Annual Elmer Tarr Clean Up Day a Success 04/17/2016

The 13th annual Elmer Tarr roadside clean up day Saturday, April 16 had a turnout of 32 participants representing five organizations.

This event is co-sponsored by the Bristol Area Lions Club and Masonic Lodge #74. Tarr was both a Lion and a Mason who, during his walks, would keep the Route 130 roadside clean from New Harbor to Pemaquid Point.

There were five from the Bristol Boy Scout Troop #228 led by Scoutmaster Scott Gray. Boy Scouts Ashton Foster, Shawn Gray and Koden Pendleton. Parent Charlyn Foster also participated.

Ten participated from the Bristol Lions Little League team led by Coach Adam Gamage, team members were Hunter Brewer, Spencer Gamage, Matt Hanna, Wade Lane, Wyatt Lane, Tyler McFarland and James Usher. Also participating were parents Nate Hanna and Annette Lane.

There were seven from the Pemaquid Watershed Association, “Trash Chicks” Lynne Gilbert, Joanna Holland, Linda Schaffer, and Kathryn Armstrong Stolecki. They were assisted by spouses Chris Gilbert, Franklin Holland and John Stolecki.
Masons cleaning and picking up trash bags were Master Terry Lowd and Masons George Apgar and Irv True.

Bristol Area Lions participating in the event were King Lion Brendan Donegan, route coordinator Bill Crider, Michael Hope, griller John Janell, Walt Johansson, photographer Herb Watson, and bun warmer Jock Winchester.

A hot dog lunch with chips and sodas was provided by the Bristol Area Lions Club at the Willing Workers Hall at noon. Bottled water for the participants was donated by the J. Edward Knight Insurance Co.

The speakers for the next meeting of the Bristol Area Lions on May 2 at 6 p.m. will be Connie Bright and Seth Hurd, volunteer coordinators for LincolnHealth. To make a dinner reservation for that meeting, call Herb Watson at 677-6191.
