Bristol Lions Award $8,000 in Scholarships 06/04/2017

The Bristol Area Lions Club congratulates four outstanding seniors of Lincoln Academy’s Class of 2017 who were each recently awarded $2,000 scholarships by the Bristol Area Lions Foundation and the 2016 Bristol Area Lions Golf Tournament. Scholarships are awarded to recognize scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service.

Evan Eckel of Pemaquid was the 32nd recipient of the Ed and Gladys Lewis Scholarship. He plans to major in aviation/professional flight at Purdue University. Among his achievements are National Honor Society, Eagle award, published author, Maine Youth Leadership Program, Rotary Youth Leadership award, Julius Goodman award, YMCA board member, YMCA Teen Leaders Club founder, Science Café co-founder. Eckel is also a part-time lobster fisherman, Eagle scout and participated in the annual Elmer Tarr roadside cleanups.

Julianna Preston of South Bristol received the Pat and Doris Harrison Scholarship. She plans a major in art history at Bard College. Among her achievements are co-founder of LA Student Stewarts, Eagle award, top 20 in Maine National French exam for three years, four-time winner of LA art award, English award, Pumpkin Fest volunteer, public speaking and advocacy for blessing of the fleet in South Bristol.

Constance Mullin of Bristol received the Ralph and Peg Hunt Scholarship. She plans to study nursing St. Anselm College. Among her achievements were National Honor Society, Girls State, Mt. Holyoke book award, captain varsity field hockey, varsity lacrosse, dance, LA Volunteer Group, LA Ambassadors, freshman mentor and volunteer at Harbor Day Care and Bristol Consolidated School.

Kaden Pendleton of New Harbor received the Lions Golf tournament and Foundation Scholarship. He plans a major in elementary education at University of Maine Farmington. Among his achievements are LA Leadership Corp., National Honor Society, freshman mentor, YMCA Youth Leadership program, Boys State, Ruth Ives Humanitarian award, DARA Good Citizen, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, LA community fundraising, volunteer for Caring for Kids, and Bristol Fire and Rescue.

The Bristol Area Lions have awarded 65 scholarships to Lincoln Academy graduating seniors from Bristol and South Bristol in the past 32 years. For more information about the nonprofit Bristol Area Lions Foundation contact, scholarship chairman, Michael Hope at 677-2193.
