The ninth annual Bristol Area Lions Foundation Golf Tournament was held Sept. 2 at Wawenock Golf Club. The day started out sunny and cool, but quickly warmed up as did the enthusiastic golfers.

No one won the 2017 Jeep Cherokee from Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, the prize for a hole-in-one on the par-three third hole; a 2018 Wawenock Golf Club membership for a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, nor a vacation package for a hole-in-one on the first hole.

The Lions are grateful for all the guidance from Wawenock General Manager Paul Richmond and help from Linda Cosgrove and R. J. Ochs for making the tournament successful. Also, thanks go to the kitchen staff of Chef Peter Flint, son Tristan and Asst. Chef Lucas Woraell. R.J. Ochs compiled the scores and announced the winners.

Winners include David Drever for closest to the lobster trap; John Haas for closest to the pin on the eighth hole; Tim Leeman had the longest drive on the seventh hole; and Joe Holland was the closest to the train.

For the third year in a row, the first low gross winners at the event were the Dewey Chase team with Tim Mateosian, Sam Mateosian, and Dave Maxwell. First net winners were the Hammond Lumber team of Paul Sproul, Richie Sproul, Alex Benner and P.J. Arsenault.

Second low gross winners were the Hammond Lumber team of Matt Corson, Scott Benner, John Haas, and Craig Lebrecque. Second net team winners were the Leeman team of Tim Leeman, Brett Cowan, Jay Bryant, and Matt Leeman.

Tournament proceeds will benefit local charities and the Bristol Area Lions scholarship fund.
