The Bristol Area Lions Golf Tournament trophy winners were Darryl Day for the closest to the pin on the eighth hole, Tom Farrell and Marilee Harris for the longest drive on the seventh hole.

The eleventh annual Bristol Area Lions Foundation Golf Tournament was held Aug. 31 at Wawenock Golf Club. It was a gorgeous day for playing golf and a good time was had by all.

No one won the 2019 Jeep Cherokee from Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, the prize for a hole-in-one on the third hole, nor the 2020 Wawenock Golf Club membership for a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.

The Lions are grateful for all the guidance and help from the Wawenock Golf Club staff: Cassandra Van Winkler, Linda Cosgrove, and R.J. Ochs for making the tournament successful. Also, thank go to Jill Harrison and her staff of the White Owl Restaurant for preparing a delicious lunch of lobster, baked potato, pasta salad and corn on the cob served buffet style outside on the lawn. Those who did not eat lobster were served prime rib with bearnaise sauce instead of burgers with no complaints.

R.J. Ochs compiled the scores and announced to the winners. The first low gross winners were the Paul Sproul team with Dereck Hanna, Mitch Beck, and Wai Houngl. The first net winners were the Darryl Day team with Ron Storer, Mike Prentice, and Eric Morgner.

The second low gross winners were the Pete Farrell team with Tom Farrell, Matt Farrell, and Kevin Murphy. The second net winners were the Dewey Chase team with Tim Mateosian, Ken Wertz, and Shawn Pellerin.

Other prize winners were Ken Wertz for the closest to the lobster trap (22”), Wai Houngl for closest to the train, Darryl Day for the closest to the to the pin in the eighth hole (3’9”), and Tom Farrell and Marilee Harris for longest drive on #7.

Tournament proceeds will benefit the Bristol Area Lions Foundation endowment scholarship fund, the Bristol Area Lions Christmas food baskets and other local charities.

Next year’s Bristol Area Lions tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 5 Labor Day weekend.
