Lion John Janell presents Bristol Area Lions Foundation annual donation to new board member of the Bristol Area Library Laura Sproul Stubbs. The library uses the contribution to provide large-print books and other services for visually impaired patrons. Residents are urged to leave their redeemable bottles and cans in the Bristol Lions box in front of the Huddle Road Redemption Center to provide funds for this and other services to the local community for eyecare. The library is a site where used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones may be left to help the Lions Sight Programs.

Round Pond Green Manager Jessica Leeman accepts the Bristol Area Lions Foundation annual donation to the Eldercare Network of Lincoln County from Lion Walt Johansson. The Eldercare Network has seven homes providing affordable assisted living as well as an Open Arms Respite Care Program for daily or short-term stays.

Brittany Gill, the Coordinator for CHIP (Community Housing Improvement Project) receives a $1,600 donation from Michael Hope, Bristol Area Lions Foundation Treasurer and CHIP board member for home repair projects. The CHIP home repair program has been assisting families helping to make their homes warm, safe, and dry since 1984. Bristol Area Lions Foundation Treasurer and Community Housing Improvement Project Inc. board member Michael Hope presented a $1,500 donation for the CHIP home repair program to board chairman David Ray.

During the past year CHIP repaired 38 homes in nine local communities with hundreds of hours of both professional and volunteer time. Funds raised for home repair were used for $39,000 of materials and $24,000 for local contractors. CHIP also assisted 300 families with $105,000 of fuel assistance.

The Lions urge all inhabitants of Lincoln County to support their efforts with their own donations to: CHIP Inc., P.O. Box 6, New Harbor, ME 04554.

The Bristol Area Lions and friends distributed 58 Christmas food baskets to Bristol and South Bristol homes Dec. 19, thanks to the efforts of project manager Lion Michael Hope and Paul Yates, of C.E. Reilly and Son Inc. in New Harbor. Special thanks to Rising Tide Community Market for their donation of canned corn and containers of turkey gravy and to Mike Reny of Biscay Orchards for bags of apples. After scholarships, this is the club’s largest donation to the community. The Bristol Area Lions look forward every year to this heartfelt event, and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

The next meeting of the Bristol Area Lions will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, at Hawks House Inn, 349 State Route 129, Walpole (formerly the Brannon-Bunker Inn).

A 2015 Jeep Cherokee is the prize for a hole-in-one on the third hole at the seventh Annual Bristol Area Lions Golf Tournament at the Wawenock Golf Club in Walpole on Saturday, Aug. 8 (rain date Aug. 9)

Registration forms are available at Wawenock Golf Club or may be emailed by request by calling 563-7402. The cost is $45 per person for nine holes, including a cart and lunch. The lunch will be lobster with corn on the cob, potato salad and tossed salad.

Other prizes are for the first low gross team and low net team, closest to the pin, longest drive, closest to the lobster trap, closest to the train, and a year’s Wawenock golf membership for a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.

Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and tee time is 9 p.m. with a scramble/shotgun start. Teams of four are encouraged, but single players will be assigned to teams.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used for the Bristol Area Lions Foundation Scholarship Fund, which in June provided four $2,000 scholarships to Lincoln Academy graduates, and to support other local charities.
