Bristol Area Lions Praised for Community Service 05/05/2017

At their meeting on May 1, at the Willing Workers Hall, the Bristol Area Lions and guests enjoyed a hardy beef stew, salad and biscuits followed by carrot cake and coffee served by caterer Deb Thibault, of Deb’s Bristol Diner.

After dinner, the club was praised for its community service projects and financial support provided to local non-profits by District Governor Elect Norm Hart.

Youth focused activities included a Liberty Day, educating seventh-graders about the U.S. Constitution and its 27 amendments; a Speak Out, involving high school students speaking in competition on a topic of their choice; and awarding four $2,000 scholarships to Bristol and South Bristol residents graduating from Lincoln Academy.

Vision activities included the collection of eyeglasses, with 119 pair presented at the meeting. In addition, donations to Lions International Sight & Hearing Foundation and to The Iris Network, serving the entire state of Maine.
Environment activities include participation in the Elmer Tarr roadside cleanup in partnership with the Bristol Masonic Lodge and the Pemaquid Watershed Association’s Keep Pemaquid Peninsula Beautiful team assisted by the Boy Scouts and The Carpenter’s Boat Shop.

Hunger activities include an annual Christmas food basket distribution in Bristol and South Bristol and a donation to the New Harbor Food Pantry.

The speaker for the next meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, May, 15 will be Michaela York, Director of Integrated Services for MOBIUS.

Bristol Area Lions Raffle Ticket Sales 07/02/2015

The Bristol Area Lions Club are selling raffle tickets in front of Reilly’s Market in New Harbor between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. every Saturday until Labor Day, when a drawing will be made at the Willing Workers Hall for a $250 gift card to L.L. Bean.

Second prize in the drawing will be one dozen lobsters from Shaw’s Fish & Lobster Wharf, and third prize will be a $50 gift certificate to The Anchor in Round Pond.
The Bristol Area Lions Club appreciates the use of the space in front of Reilly’s Market. The market owner, Reggie Reilly was a founding member of the Bristol Area Lions in 1958.

Also for sale will be a reprinted book of the early history of Pemaquid Peninsula and a photo essay of Muscongus Bay. All proceeds will benefit the Bristol Area Lions Foundation Scholarship Fund as well as their Christmas Food Baskets and other local charities.

In addition, the Bristol Area Lions will be collecting used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones to be recycled by Lions International and distributed to third world countries.
