The Bristol Area Lions Silent Auction included a five foot high golfing lobster made by Andy Leck, the Scottish Lion Blacksmith for the event. It now welcomes golfers at the Wawenock Golf Club.

The fifth annual Bristol Area Lions Foundation Golf Tournament and Silent Auction were held Aug. 10 at Wawenock Golf Club on a beautiful sunny morning.

The event was a success even though no one won the hole-in-one 2014 Jeep Patriot from Newcastle Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep on the par-three third hole.

The golf tournament, sponsor donations and silent auction proceeds will go to help local charities and the Bristol Area Lions Foundation scholarship fund.

A delicious lunch of donated lobsters from Shaw’s Lobster Wharf and the New Harbor Co-op with corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw and fruit salad prepared by Sharlene Feltus of the Fairway Restaurant was enjoyed by all.

Wawenock’s Kelsey Leeman compiled the team scores and awarded prizes to all the winners. Winners include Robert Clifford, for closest to the pin on Hole 8; Joe Nelsen, for longest drive on Hole 7; Eddie McCarthy, for closest to the train on Hole 6.

First Gross winners at the event were Robert Clifford, Tom Burnham, Matt Poole and Anna Knott. First Net winners were Keith Simmons, Tom Simmons, Joe Nelsen and Alan Smith. Second Gross winners were Ben Ogburn and Leo Cardillo, while Second Net winners were Brian Ethridge, Eddie McCarthy and Tom Andrews.

The Bristol Area Lions Club would like to extend their gratitude to the Paul Richmond, Wawenock general manager and his staff, Sharlene Feltus of the Fairway Restaurant’ and Randy Miller and Mike Elwell of Newcastle Jeep for their assistance in the club’s largest fund raising event. Also, special thanks are due to the generous sponsors and local silent auction donors who made this event possible.
